Christina Applegate Reveals Childhood Trauma: A Journey of Healing
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, Feb 26 (NationPress) Actress Christina Applegate, known for her roles in films like Hall Pass, Vacation, and Bad Moms, has opened up about being sexually abused by a female babysitter, an experience that has profoundly shaped her life.
The 54-year-old star, who was mainly raised by her mother, Nancy Priddy, following her father's departure when she was just a baby, expressed in her new memoir: “I recognized every part of it was wrong. I felt nauseous, terrified, and sorrowful…”
“I have never completely felt at ease with being touched, and that remains true to this day. My discomfort stems from that girl pressuring me into something I barely grasped but knew was shameful,” she revealed in an excerpt from her memoir titled You With the Sad Eyes, as reported by People magazine.
Her early home environment was chaotic due to her mother's battle with heroin addiction and an abusive boyfriend who also directed his violence toward Christina, as stated by femalefirst.co.uk.
She commented: “I believe I experienced one of the worst scenarios from ages 3 to 7. Yet, similar situations were prevalent in many homes—single mothers, men coming and going, drug use.”
Christina emphasized that she doesn’t want her book to portray her as a victim but hopes her narrative resonates with others.
She told People: “Because a lot of it is quite intense. Someone once asked me, ‘Are you sharing this as a victim?’ and I responded, ‘No, I aim to empower others out there.’ At least that’s my intention.
“I wish that some girl or boy, or anyone who has faced molestation or abuse, can find solace in my story and think, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to be okay.’ ”
The former Married... With Children actress shares a 15-year-old daughter, Sadie, with her husband, Martyn LeNoble. When it comes to parenting, she rejects the notion that one shouldn’t be friends with their kids.
She added: “Because I am, especially now. I’m her greatest advocate. I stand up for her at every opportunity. And I drive her to school with Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground blasting. That’s just me in a nutshell.”
Despite her battle with multiple sclerosis (MS), she maintains a sense of humor about herself.
She remarked: “I’ll put on my diaper and stroll into her room. I waddle in wearing a tank top above my belly, and at times, I draw faces on my belly button. She’s like, ‘Mom. Mom! Just stop.’ ”
