Mumbai, May 14 (NationPress) The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called upon all Indian film producers to reevaluate Turkey as a filming site due to the nation’s increasing support for Pakistan.
In a recent statement, the film organization stressed the importance of the Indian film industry taking a firm stance against Turkey's political alignment, encouraging producers to explore alternative filming locations.
Representing 36 different crafts of workers, technicians, and artists within India's media and entertainment sector, FWICE has emphatically requested producers to boycott Turkey as a shooting venue. This action is a direct response to Turkey's growing support for Pakistan on matters that significantly impact India's national interests.
In their announcement, FWICE stated, “FWICE has consistently upheld the principle that ‘Nation Comes First.’ Given recent developments and Turkey’s persistent support for Pakistan, which raises concerns about national integrity and security, we believe it is not in the best interest of the Indian film industry to invest in or collaborate with a country that may indirectly aid such a nation.”
The statement also elaborated, “Turkey’s position has been evident not only diplomatically but also in several international forums, where it has adopted stances counter to India’s sovereign interests. As an industry deeply embedded in Indian culture, we cannot afford to ignore actions that threaten our nation's dignity or security. We therefore urge all production companies, line producers, actors, directors, and crew members across the Indian film community to unite in solidarity with the nation and avoid Turkey as a filming location until the country revisits its diplomatic stance and aligns with principles of mutual respect and non-interference.”
“FWICE has always been a cornerstone for the Indian film industry and its workforce. Our solidarity during these critical times is essential to convey a powerful, united message: India’s sovereignty and dignity are non-negotiable. We are hopeful that the Indian film community will heed this appeal in the broader context of national interest,” the film body added.
FWICE's appeal follows significant backlash in India after Turkey and Azerbaijan expressed official support for Pakistan. On May 8, both nations released statements backing Pakistan. Turkey’s Foreign Ministry criticized Operation Sindoor, labeling it a “provocative act.” This led to a surge of backlash on Indian social media, with notable figures such as Rupali Ganguly expressing their outrage and echoing calls to boycott Turkey.
