Gautham Karthik Shares His Grueling Journey for 'Mr X': A Nine-Month Transformation!
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, April 15 (NationPress) Actor Gautham Karthik, who stars in the highly anticipated spy thriller Mr X directed by Manu Anand, recently shared a video showcasing his intense gym workouts. He expressed that the journey of preparing for Mr X has been one of the most transformative experiences in his life.
On his Instagram, Gautham Karthik stated, "After nine months filled with blood, sweat, and tears, I’ve pushed through my limits, fought cravings, maintained consistency, and managed past injuries. Thanks to my trainer @aestheticyogi, preparing for Mr X has been a life-changing journey. I am eternally thankful to my director and close friend @iammanuanand for believing in me for this role."
Recently, Arya, who plays the other leading role in the film, shared his own challenges of preparing for a crucial underwater scene.
The sequence, which opens the film, was shot in a diving pool in Mumbai at a depth of 20 feet. According to insiders, Arya submerged into the icy waters, holding his breath while performing a scene that Manu Anand claims is unprecedented in Tamil cinema.
Typically, underwater scenes in Indian films are filmed at a depth of only six feet using underwater stages. However, for Mr X, this was not viable. The scene demanded Arya to dive to 20 feet to authentically portray the deep ocean experience, which presented significant physical difficulties, particularly due to the chilling water temperature that ranged between 15 and 16 degrees.
Arya remarked, "As we descend deeper, the water temperature drops — around 15 to 16 degrees, which is extremely cold. Performing this scene without a wetsuit while controlling my body's natural reaction to shiver was a real challenge, especially while holding my breath for 30 to 40 seconds during the action."
Reflecting on the effort, Arya said, "Ultimately, seeing the final product on screen makes me proud of this sequence. Audiences will grasp its importance once they watch the film."
Mr X draws inspiration from seven real-life incidents that occurred in India between 1965 and 2023. Produced by Maverik Movies Pvt Ltd and Prince Pictures, the film also features Gautham Karthik, Manju Warrier, Sarathkumar, and others. Mr X is set to hit theaters worldwide on April 17 of this year.
