Los Angeles, April 18 (NationPress) Actor Ryan Gosling is set to star in a new installment of the Star Wars franchise, entitled Star Wars: Starfighter, with Shawn Levy at the helm of direction.
The production company Lucasfilm has officially confirmed this exciting news. Filming is scheduled to commence in the fall, with Disney aiming for a theatrical release on May 28, 2027, as reported by variety.com.
During the annual Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo, Lucasfilm's president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni revealed the details surrounding Starfighter.
According to variety.com, the script for the film has been penned by Jonathan Tropper, known for his previous collaborations with Levy and as the creator of the Apple TV+ series Your Friends & Neighbors.
At the livestreamed Star Wars Celebration, both Gosling and Levy provided further insights into the project, with Gosling sporting a cap that read, “Never tell me the odds.”
“Being here and seeing all of you is incredibly inspiring. There’s so much creativity and love in this room. It’s a reminder of how significant movies can be, especially these,” Gosling expressed to the enthusiastic audience at the conclusion of the presentation.
“The force is an enigmatic entity, but, right now, the force is the fans. Our wish is that, ‘May the fans be with us,’” he added.
“We’re fans too,” Levy remarked.
“There is a profound connection between these stories and the audience; we have spent our lives as part of that audience. We understand the importance of this,” he commented.
This standalone film will introduce new characters to the Star Wars universe and is set approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker, which concluded the Skywalker saga and remains the latest entry on the Star Wars timeline. No additional casting information has been disclosed.
Gosling was last seen in the action-packed romantic comedy The Fall Guy, released in May 2024. Starfighter represents a new venture for the typically franchise-averse actor.
