Chennai, April 15 (NationPress) Renowned Indian music composer Ilaiyaraaja has issued a legal notice to Mythri Movie Makers, the studio behind actor Ajith Kumar’s action film ‘Good Bad Ugly’. He demands an apology and a compensation of Rs 5 crore for the unauthorized use of his songs in the movie.
Additionally, he has requested the removal of the altered versions of his tracks featured in the film.
Ilaiyaraaja’s attorney, Saravanan Annadurai, discussed the situation with a news channel, stating, “We have sent a notice to Mythri Movie Makers for using three of Ilaiyaraaja’s songs—‘Otha Rubai Tharen’, ‘Ilamai Idho Idho’, and ‘En Jodi Manja Kurvi’—without obtaining proper permission. Consequently, we are demanding compensation.”
He elaborated on the notice, explaining, “The Indian Copyright Act clearly safeguards the rights of creators. It is unequivocal that no one should infringe upon these rights. The laws exist to protect creators from exploitation by those aiming to profit. It is based on these regulations that we have issued the notice to the production house.”
The attorney added, “Another significant point is that these songs have not been utilized in their original form; they have been distorted. When a creator’s works are altered, the creator possesses a moral right to contest that alteration. The law explicitly states that such distortions are unacceptable.”
He emphasized that the notice was issued for two primary reasons: first, the producers used Ilaiyaraaja’s copyrighted music without proper consent, and second, they distorted his creations.
The attorney confirmed that they are seeking Rs 5 crore in damages and are demanding the removal of the altered versions from the film, along with a public apology from the producers.
