James McAvoy Discusses the Benefits of Fatherhood at 46
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 31 (NationPress) Hollywood star James McAvoy has opened up about the transformations he has undergone since becoming a father.
The accomplished actor revealed that he now "worries less" and adopts a "more philosophical" outlook after welcoming his second child in his 40s, as reported by Female First UK.
At 46, McAvoy has a son born in 2010 from his previous marriage to Anne-Marie Duff and welcomed another baby boy in 2022 with his current wife, Lisa Liberati. He discussed how his approach to parenting has evolved as he ages.
In an interview with The Guardian, he stated, "Having a child at 42 is certainly easier in some aspects. I experience less worry and feel more philosophical. However, it’s also more challenging due to my age and fatigue.”
James has also ventured into directing with his debut film, California Schemin'. He acknowledged that taking on this new role in his 40s has introduced significant stress that has impacted his sleep.
He shared, "I’m experiencing all that first-time director stress in my 40s. While working on the film, I would often wake up at 2:30 AM with thoughts about it racing through my mind. That’s the time when you put in extra effort, stay up late, and usually, that energy is found in your 20s.”
According to Female First UK, the film portrays the true story of two Scottish rappers who abandon their accents to impersonate Americans in pursuit of success. James noted that the narrative reflects the ongoing challenges faced by Scottish entertainers.
He remarked, "If I were creating this film set in Boston about the same demographic, it would feature two well-known movie stars instead of lesser-known actors like Samuel Bottomley and Seamus McLean Ross. There are perhaps only five actors in Scotland capable of getting films financed, and even then, it’s not guaranteed if it’s a Scottish setting—myself, Karen Gillan, Richard Madden, and others, and we are all over 35 with only one being a woman. I find it perplexing because we certainly produce talent. So, where are all the 21-year-old movie stars?"
