Kabir Khan Marks 18 Years Since His Debut Film ‘Kabul Express’

Mumbai, Dec 15 (NationPress) As his inaugural film “Kabul Express” reaches the milestone of 18 years in Hindi cinema, filmmaker Kabir Khan reflected that the first is always the most special.
Kabir shared a poster of the film, which features John Abraham and Arshad Warsi, on his Instagram stories. The poster proudly declares, “Celebrating 18 years of Kabul Express”.
In his caption, Kabir expressed, “The first is always the most special.”
Beginning his career at the age of 25, he worked as a cinematographer for the documentary Beyond the Himalayas, directed by Gautam Ghosh. He later made his directorial debut with the documentary The Forgotten Army, which focused on Subhas Chandra Bose's Indian National Army.
His mainstream directorial journey began with the Yash Raj Films-backed adventure thriller Kabul Express in 2006. The film was, according to him, loosely inspired by his own experiences and those of his friend Rajan Kapoor in post-Taliban Afghanistan.
The narrative follows two Indian journalists, an American reporter, and an Afghan guide who become hostages of Pakistani soldiers, compelled to embark on a 48-hour trek through a war-torn nation.
The film encountered various controversies. In 2007, the Afghan government, which had previously endorsed the filming in their country, imposed a ban on the movie before its official release there.
This ban was due to the film's allegedly racist depiction of the Hazara Shia minority, one of Afghanistan's four major ethnic groups, as reported.
Following Kabul Express, Kabir directed films such as New York, the action thriller Ek Tha Tiger featuring Salman Khan, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Phantom, and 83.
His latest release is Chandu Champion, a biographical sports drama starring Kartik Aaryan. The film portrays the journey of India’s first Paralympics gold medallist Murlikant Petkar, highlighting his extraordinary resolve in overcoming challenges. His spirit and resilience lead him to achieve historic success.
