Mumbai, Jan 14 (NationPress) The forthcoming directorial venture of Kangana Ranaut, titled ‘Emergency’, which chronicles the life of the former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, will not be released in Bangladesh due to the deteriorating political ties between the two neighboring nations.

This film explores the tumultuous period of the Emergency proclaimed in India in 1975 by Indira Gandhi, and it has become a focal point in a geopolitical standoff.

A close associate disclosed, "The ban on ‘Emergency’ in Bangladesh is linked to the current strained relations between India and Bangladesh. This decision is more about the political climate than the film's content."

Indira Gandhi played a crucial role in aiding Bangladesh during its liberation from Pakistan, despite pressure from the USA to refrain from interfering. However, she chose to proceed, believing that engaging in conflict would be more beneficial than accommodating millions of refugees, which sparked the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971.

During this time, while the USA threatened India with a naval offensive by sending aircraft carriers to the Bay of Bengal, India received backing from the USSR, which deployed nuclear-armed submarines and warships. The bond between India and USSR has persisted even after the latter's dissolution, with Russia remaining a significant player in the Eastern bloc.

‘Emergency’ showcases the pivotal role of the Indian Army and Indira Gandhi's administration during the 1971 Bangladesh war of independence, highlighting the support extended to Shaikh Mujibur Rehman, revered as the Father of Bangladesh, who referred to Indira Gandhi as Goddess Durga.

The film also depicts the assassination of Shaikh Mujibur Rehman by Bangladeshi extremists, a factor thought to have contributed to the film's ban in Bangladesh.

India engaged in a two-front war against West Pakistan and former East Pakistan, which ultimately became Bangladesh.

In modern times, Bangladesh was India’s only ally within the subcontinent. However, following the removal of Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, the dynamics between the two nations have shifted significantly. India now finds itself encircled by adversarial neighbors, including China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and the Taliban-led regime in Afghanistan.
