Karisma Kapoor Reflects on Raj Kapoor: The Family Showman
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 4 (NationPress) Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor has shared heartfelt memories of her iconic grandfather Raj Kapoor, whom she affectionately called the "showman" of their family, revealing how he never reprimanded her.
In a forthcoming episode of Indian Idol, a contestant will enchant viewers with a rendition of "Chalat Musafir," a classic song linked to Raj Kapoor.
After the performance, host Aditya Narayan remarked on Raj Kapoor’s legendary status, stating: “Yeh song Raj ji ka hai. Hum unhe as a showman jaante hain, superstar jaante hain, lekin aapne unhe ek family member ke roop mein bhi dekha hain. Aap unhe dada ji ke roop mein jaanti hain kuch batayein na unke baare mein.”
("This song belongs to Raj ji. We know him as a showman and a superstar, but you have also seen him as a family member. You have known him as a grandfather—please tell us something about him)," Aditya prompted.
Karisma responded with warm reflections, expressing, “I believe that his insights, value system, art, and professionalism are lessons we have all learned from him.”
She further shared, “As a child, he would impart wisdom on life from various perspectives — as a daughter, a future mother, and an actor. Those lessons are incredibly precious to me. He was undoubtedly the showman of cinema and our family.”
She reminisced about a delightful story involving mangoes, a fruit he cherished.
Karisma fondly recalled in Hindi: “When we were young, my grandfather adored mangoes. Although he traveled extensively, he remained humble at heart. He had a small fridge dedicated to mangoes.”
“We grandchildren would sneak in to enjoy those mangoes and even his foreign chocolates. If any of his children took them, they would face reprimands, but he never said anything to me. Perhaps it was because I resembled him.”
Indian Idol is broadcast on Sony Entertainment Television and available for streaming on Sony LIV.
