Director R J Balaji broke down in an emotional video on 14 May, offering a tearful apology to fans of actor Suriya who had arrived at theatres across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala for the morning shows of 'Karuppu', only to be turned away. The film's release was derailed at the last minute due to financial hurdles, forcing the cancellation of the 9 am shows scheduled for Thursday.

Director's Emotional Appeal

Posting a video from his car on Instagram, R J Balaji said, 'Another update from my car. I hope this is the last one. I am really sorry to all the fans. It shouldn't have happened.' Visibly distressed, with reddened eyes, the director acknowledged the disappointment of fans who had travelled long distances to catch the first show.

Breaking down mid-video, Balaji said, 'I have thought about this on many days — that my film Karuppu will release on May 14 and it would go on to emerge a big blockbuster. I have manifested this.' He forced a smile through tears, adding, 'Tears are coming. The pain is there but that is another department.'

What Caused the Delay

According to industry sources, the release of 'Karuppu' was held up due to financial hurdles that the makers were scrambling to resolve. Negotiations that stretched through Wednesday night and into the early hours of Thursday morning reportedly failed to reach a resolution, compelling the production to pull the morning shows.

Dream Warrior Pictures, the production house behind the film, retweeted an announcement by producer S R Prabhu on its X timeline, which read: 'Due to unavoidable reasons, 9am shows will be cancelled for Karuppu. Our sincere apologies to everyone!'

Balaji's Hope for an Evening Release

Despite the setback, R J Balaji expressed cautious optimism that the issues would be resolved in time for an evening screening. 'I am very hopeful that this evening, by 6 pm, all these problems will get resolved and the film will release,' he said. He credited the collective effort of many people, including lead actor Suriya, in trying to push the film through. 'Suriya sir has given so much,' he acknowledged.
