Mumbai, Jan 24 (NationPress) The well-known actor Kamaal Rashid Khan, commonly referred to as KRK, was remanded to police custody until January 27 by a Bandra court in connection with the Oshiwara firing case, as per officials from the Mumbai Police.
Following his remand, Kamaal Rashid Khan was escorted to the police station by Oshiwara Police officials. During the court session, Khan asserted that the firing was accidental, insisting he had no intention of causing harm.
The police informed the court that they are probing the underlying motive of the incident and are in the process of validating Khan's claims. Officials noted that the actor is fully cooperating with the investigation.
Earlier in the day, the Mumbai Police took KRK into custody after he was identified as the primary suspect in a two-round firing incident that occurred in the Oshiwara area. Hours post-arrest, police disclosed that the actor had discharged two rounds while cleaning his firearm at home to ensure its functionality.
Providing further details, police officers indicated that Kamaal Rashid Khan obtained a gun license and a firearm from Uttar Pradesh in 2005. After acquiring the weapon, he transported it to Mumbai, where it remained in his residence for nearly two decades.
Notably, a few days prior to the incident, in adherence to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections, KRK had deposited his firearm at the Versova Police Station. Once the MCC was lifted, he retrieved the weapon.
According to police reports, four to five days after retrieving the firearm, the actor was cleaning it at his home when he accidentally fired two rounds to test its operation. Unfortunately, due to strong winds, the bullets veered off course, striking the adjacent Nalanda building. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Oshiwara Police registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the event. After interrogating KRK and analyzing the sequence of occurrences, the police arrested him in relation to the firing case.
Emerging details from the investigation reveal that the incident transpired on January 18, when the two rounds struck a residential building in Oshiwara, Andheri. During the investigation, officials recovered two bullets from the Nalanda Society, with one located on the second floor and the other on the fourth floor of the building.
