Mumbai, Feb 21 (NationPress) Actor Kunal Kapoor has expressed his endorsement for India's consideration of limiting social media access for minors under 16, asserting that this approach is not anti-technology but rather pro-future.
Kunal shared his thoughts on X, formerly known as Twitter, re-tweeting a report about how India, with a vast population of 1.4 billion, is contemplating a ban on social media for children below the age of 16.
In response to the ongoing deliberations regarding the regulation of social media for youths, Kunal emphasized that shielding young minds from algorithms crafted to be addictive is a pressing necessity.
He stated: “This is much needed. It's not anti tech but pro future. We must safeguard young minds from algorithms designed to be addictive. It also provides us an opportunity to develop our indigenous platforms that prioritize growth over mere engagement,” tweeted the actor.
The Union government is reportedly evaluating measures to restrict social media usage for individuals under the age of 16 by modifying the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
Kunal began his career as an assistant director, making his acting debut in the MF Hussain film Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities in 2004. His significant breakthrough came with the Aamir Khan-led Rang De Basanti in 2006.
He has since appeared in various films including Aaja Nachle, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Welcome to Sajjanpur, Don 2, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, Dear Zindagi, Veeram, and Gold.
