Mumbai, Dec 13 (NationPress) Bollywood stars Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal expressed their support for a potential ban on social media for children in India, taking inspiration from a similar move in Australia.
During a panel event held at MET (Mumbai Education Trust) College, they were prompted to share their thoughts on Australia’s restriction on social media access for individuals under 16 years old.
In her response, Sonakshi described the ban as a 'very positive step', advocating for its introduction in India as well.
Zaheer contributed to the discussion by stating that while an outright ban may not always be necessary, it is vital to monitor the content that children are consuming on social media platforms.
He elaborated, 'There are various extremes. A ban is one option, but proper control is essential too. For instance, when my niece visits, we allow her to use the iPad, but we strictly regulate what she can access.'
Sonakshi emphasized the importance of age-appropriate exposure, asserting that children should not engage with social media until they can distinguish between right and wrong.
'It's definitely avoidable until a certain age. A child should not be exposed to social media until they can comprehend the difference between good and bad.' the 'Dabangg' actress remarked.
Zaheer added, 'Moreover, monitoring is crucial. Even if it’s tedious to watch alongside them for hours, it's essential.'
