Is Director Lokesh Kanakaraj Making a Film on 'Rolex' with Suriya?

Chennai, May 2 (NationPress) Renowned Tamil film director Lokesh Kanakaraj has officially announced that he will create a standalone movie featuring actor Suriya as the character Rolex, which Suriya portrayed in the acclaimed director's blockbuster film 'Vikram'.

Taking a short break from social media as he prepares for the promotions of his upcoming film 'Coolie', starring superstar Rajinikanth, Lokesh was recently queried by reporters about a potential collaboration with Suriya.

In his response, the director confirmed, “Absolutely! Rolex is on the agenda! We are unsure of the release date. Sir (Suriya) has existing commitments, and I have obligations as well. My next project is 'Kaithi 2' (with Karthi). Once that’s done, we will plan the timeline. But I assure you, we will make the film.”

This announcement has delighted Suriya's fans, as Lokesh Kanakaraj is currently one of the most successful directors in the industry, boasting a flawless success record with all his films, including 'Master', 'Leo', and 'Vikram', which have all been major hits.

Although Suriya's role as Rolex was brief in ‘Vikram’, it left a significant impression. His character appeared towards the end of the film for a mere two minutes, yet it has sparked great anticipation for its return in the forthcoming installment of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).

Meanwhile, the next film from Lokesh, starring Rajinikanth, is 'Coolie'. This action thriller is set to release on August 14 this year and will feature a stellar cast, including Telugu star Nagarjuna, Kannada star Upendra, Malayalam star Soubin Shahir, and Tamil star Sathyaraj. Notably, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan will have a cameo.

The film will also showcase Shruti Haasan, Rebe Monica John, and Junior MGR in crucial roles.

Music will be composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by Girish Gangadharan. Editing is handled by Philomin Raj, and it is produced by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures.

This film has generated considerable excitement due to several factors, including a reunion of actors Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth, who last appeared together nearly 38 years ago in the hit Tamil film 'Mr. Bharath' (1986), where Sathyaraj portrayed Rajinikanth's father. Interestingly, Sathyaraj had previously declined roles in some of Rajinikanth's earlier films like 'Enthiran' and 'Sivaji'.

'Coolie', marking Rajinikanth's 171st film, will center around gold smuggling. Notably, director Lokesh Kanakaraj has revealed that 'Coolie' will be a standalone project, separate from his Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
