What Did Mads Mikkelsen Say About 'Freezing to Death' While Filming ‘Rogue One’?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, Dec 24 (NationPress) Renowned Hollywood actor Mads Mikkelsen shared insights from his time on the 2016 ‘Star Wars’ prequel ‘Rogue One’.
He remarked that the script was quite “unexpectedly unfinished” during the shooting, according to ‘Variety’.
Mikkelsen explained to ‘Variety’, “It kept evolving. One might assume that it was already finalized. I don’t believe they ever confirmed a draft. They were continuously developing and improvising, going back to reshoot scenes and generating better ideas, which suited a character like mine. I had my clear goal.”
He also pointed out, “I understood my mission, but it was certainly challenging for the two younger protagonists, who were unsure of what they were bringing into a complex situation.”
As noted by ‘Variety’, Mikkelsen portrayed Galen Erso in the film, alongside stars such as Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Ben Mendelsohn as Orson Krennic, and Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imwe.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, this ‘Star Wars’ anthology film depicts a group of resistance fighters embarking on a mission to seize the plans for the Death Star.
Mikkelsen highlighted that the scene where he declares, “It must be destroyed” while drenched in rain was particularly challenging to reshoot due to the ongoing changes in the narrative.
He recounted, “That was an arduous day, and it stretched over several days, as there were numerous modifications to the plot. We went back and forth, and it was raining. When dealing with artificial rain, it’s nearly impossible to film a lengthy scene without experiencing ice-cold water. I was lying there, freezing to death, attempting to keep my eyes open.”
Mikkelsen also reflected on his acclaimed role in ‘Casino Royale’, mentioning that both he and co-star Daniel Craig were told to cease improvising during shooting, noting that Craig was the only cast member unfamiliar with poker.
