Los Angeles, May 7 (NationPress) Hollywood icon Mads Mikkelsen has now joined the voice cast of the animated film “North,” drawing inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved fairy tale “The Snow Queen.”
The narrative revolves around Gerda, who embarks on an adventurous quest to find her friend Kai, who has inexplicably disappeared, as reported by variety.com.
Throughout her voyage, Gerda encounters various allies, including animals, birds, and a benevolent witch, all while being oblivious to a lurking menace—the Snow Queen and her sinister apprentice, Louie—who are keeping a watchful eye on her. The wicked queen has imprisoned Kai in her icy palace located deep in Finnmark, Norway.
Mikkelsen lends his voice to Severin, Kai’s father, a character that “exemplifies wisdom, sorrow, and the ageless magic of storytelling,” according to a press release.
As a carpenter, he crafts a stunning sled for his son for Christmas, only to be heartbroken when both the sled and Kai go missing. The film is being showcased at Cannes by Studio 100 Film and will have its screening on May 13 in the Marché du Film.
Renowned Norwegian composer Rolf Lovland has contributed the original song “Finding You,” performed by the talented Norwegian pop singer Maria Arredondo.
“This emotive ballad captures the essence of longing and connection that permeates the film’s narrative,” the statement mentioned.
“North” is helmed by fantasy author Bente Lohne, produced by Hakon Gundersen and his company PictoryLand, in collaboration with Anima Vitae. Ralph Guggenheim, co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios, acts as a consulting producer.
Mikkelsen gained prominence in Denmark through his roles, including Tonny in the Pusher film trilogy, Detective Sergeant Allan Fischer in the series Rejseholdet, and notable films like Open Hearts, The Green Butchers, Adam's Apples, and After the Wedding.
