Mumbai, March 13 (NationPress) Renowned actor, fitness advocate, and former supermodel Milind Soman asserts that the age of colossal global superstars has essentially come to an end. He emphasizes that the contemporary entertainment scene is significantly more fragmented than before.

In an exclusive interview with IANS, Milind remarked that as audiences become increasingly fragmented, the concept of stardom shifts towards niche markets. He stated, “As fragmentation increases, stars will become smaller and more specialized. There are no longer any universal figures dominating the scene. There’s only one Rajinikanth and one Amitabh Bachchan. That’s all there is.”

Reflecting on his beginnings in modeling, Milind noted the admiration he still garners across different age groups and commented on how the notion of iconic stardom has transformed over the years. He explained that audiences have become far more segmented.

Milind further elaborated, “Those who appreciate it find value in it, but I believe that era is over, not just in fashion modeling but globally.”

He pointed out that actors frequently lament the fact that the last of the superstars are fading, regardless of whether it’s in Hindi cinema or Hollywood.

Milind stressed that the world no longer produces mega stars like those of the past, stating, “You will not encounter a star like Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger, or Tom Cruise anymore. Who follows them? Where are they? You can look at Amitabh Bachchan and see there’s no one like him today. This trend is prevalent across all fields.”

He also highlighted a similar trend in music and popular culture. “In music, where is Michael Jackson? Is there anyone to take his place? What about Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, or Madonna? No one has reached that level of stardom or iconic status,” he added.

Milind believes this shift has occurred largely because a significant portion of today's audiences engage with content in a highly segmented manner.

“The audience isn’t rejecting it; it’s just that today’s preferences are so varied that everyone gravitates towards their specific genre,” he explained.

On the professional front, Milind is set to appear in the upcoming series Kaattaan, featuring Vijay Sethupathi. The show is scheduled to debut on the streaming platform JioHotstar on March 27.

Point of View
