On Friday, Night Shift Studios announced ‘Dies Irae’ as the title of their second feature film. This Malayalam horror-thriller features Pranav Mohanlal in the lead role and is both written and directed by Rahul Sadasivan, who is known for directing the studio’s critically acclaimed debut, ‘Bramayugam’, according to reports from variety.com.
With principal photography completed, the film is currently in the post-production phase. The studio's previous project, a monochrome period horror film titled ‘Bramayugam’, starred notable figures such as Malayalam superstar Mammootty, Arjun Ashokan, and Sidharth Bharathan, all under Sadasivan's direction.
Chakravarthy Ramachandra, the founder and producer at Night Shift Studios, remarked, “With ‘Bramayugam,’ we managed to capture global attention towards the potential of Indian horror thrillers.”
He continued, “‘Dies Irae’ is the next logical step in this journey. Pranav Mohanlal is poised to make a lasting impact in this genre.”
While specific plot details are still under wraps, director Sadasivan hints that audiences can look forward to something uniquely different from his earlier projects. He stated, “Compared to my previous films, ‘Dies Irae’ will delve into a completely different emotional realm that resonates with today’s youth.”
He added, “Although it remains within the horror-thriller category, it offers a very distinct narrative style and mood.”
The production team has maintained the core creative team from ‘Bramayugam’, indicating that Night Shift Studios is committed to a cohesive approach to their genre while exploring new avenues.
Partner and producer at Night Shift Studios, S. Sashikanth, commented, “Projects like ‘Dies Irae’ necessitate not just a captivating concept but also the right combination of talent and uncompromising quality. That’s what truly excites us about this venture.”
Pranav Mohanlal made his acting debut as a child in Onnaman in 2002 and later took on a leading role in Punarjani.
