The original ‘Shaktimaan’ was a superhero television series conceived and produced by Mukesh, which aired on DD National from September 1997 until March 2005.
Mukesh portrayed the titular superhero, who acquires superhuman powers through meditation and the five elements of nature, along with his alter ego, Pandit Gangadhar Vidhyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri, a photographer for Aaj Ki Aawaz.
The series also starred Vaishnavi Mahant (originally played by Kitu Gidwani) as journalist Geeta Vishwas and Surendra Pal as the primary antagonist, Tamraj Kilvish.
It gained immense popularity and was recognized for its influence on children, with Mukesh receiving accolades from Indian political leaders for his performance. The show was succeeded by Shaktimaan: The Animated Series in 2011, and a television film, Hamara Hero Shaktimaan, in 2013. In 2024, he unveiled plans for the revival of Shaktimaan through a teaser video.
Rohan Nayak, CEO and Co-Founder of Pocket Entertainment, remarked, “Reviving Shaktimaan in audio form is a milestone for us. It exemplifies how a timeless legacy can embrace modern storytelling.”
“Collaborating with Mukesh Khanna to bring back India’s most iconic superhero, who influenced an entire generation, is more than mere nostalgia. It is a bold initiative to create a rich audio universe in sci-fi and fantasy, an endeavor rarely attempted in the Indian storytelling landscape.”
