Mumbai, Feb 23 (NationPress) It appears that comedians and independent content creators in India's vast digital landscape are facing significant challenges. Following the controversy surrounding comedian Samay Raina's show 'India's Got Latent', now comedian Munawar Faruqui is being scrutinized for his purported remarks during his streaming program.

Advocate Amita Sachdeva took to her X, previously known as Twitter, on Sunday to announce that she has lodged a formal complaint against Munawar Faruqui due to his alleged comments on the OTT show 'Hafta Wasooli'.

Amita labeled Munawar a “habitual offender” and claimed that his statements on the show have disrespected various religions.

She stated, “Complaint Filed Against Munawar Faruqui (@munawar0018)! I have officially submitted a complaint against habitual offender Munawar Faruqui, for his show 'Hafta Wasooli' streamed on @JioHotstar, requesting an FIR under BNS Sections 196, 299, and 353, as well as the IT Act and other pertinent Sections for promoting vulgarity, insulting multiple religions, violating cultural values, and polluting the minds of youth and society.”

She further added, “The complaint has been sent via email and will be physically submitted & speed-posted on Monday. If no action is taken, I will approach the Court to ensure justice prevails! #MunawarFaruqui #LegalAction #ProtectOurCulture.”

This incident marks yet another legal entanglement for Munawar. On January 1, 2021, he staged a stand-up performance at Munro Cafe in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, which was disrupted by Eklavya Singh Gaur, the son of BJP MLA Malini Gaur, who accused him of making disparaging jokes about Hindu deities and the Indian Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah.

On January 2, he was taken into custody by the Madhya Pradesh Police during his performance, under allegations related to hate speech laws in India. Despite lacking evidence against him, the police proceeded with the arrest, which drew significant backlash for infringing upon a comedian's freedom of expression.
