Mumbai, April 28 (NationPress) Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, renowned for his captivating performances in films and web series, recently shared insights into his past decision to distance himself from OTT platforms. In a revealing discussion, the ‘Haddi’ actor elaborated on why he initially withdrew from the digital landscape, shedding light on his changing perspective regarding streaming content. When questioned about his prior choice to stay away from OTT, Nawazuddin remarked to IANS, “That was ages ago! Even then, many of my films were debuting on OTT. That remains unchanged. My upcoming film will hit theatres, but OTT is here to stay, reaching an extensive audience.”
In 2021, news surfaced regarding Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s choice to refrain from OTT platforms, stemming from his dissatisfaction with the content being generated. In a previous interview, he expressed that he no longer wanted to engage with streaming platforms due to his disappointment with the quality of shows produced. The actor labeled OTT as a “dumping ground” for repetitive content, stating, “We either see shows that shouldn’t be viewed at all, or sequels to shows that bring nothing new.” Siddiqui further described these platforms as a “racket” for major production houses and actors.
Nonetheless, later on, the 'Sacred Games' actor clarified that his remarks had been misunderstood. Nawazuddin articulated that he never intended to cease working on OTT platforms. Instead, he conveyed that he merely wished to avoid projects that resembled soap operas.
Meanwhile, the actor is preparing for the launch of his next film, “Costao”, where he portrays a courageous customs officer. The 50-year-old actor shared that the officer’s bravery and the character’s depth made the role irresistible.
“There can't be just one reason. There were many factors, actually. But if I had to highlight a few, the two people sitting beside me—Sejal and Vinod—were major reasons. It was the writing. And of course, it was about Costao —his personality, his life story. His bravery, honesty, discipline, and courage really moved me,” he elaborated.
Directed by debutant Sejal Shah, “Costao” features a cast including Priya Bapat, Kishore Kumar G, Gagan Dev Riar, and Hussain Dalal. The film is produced by Vinod Bhanushali, Kamlesh Bhanushali, Bhavesh Mandalia, Sejal Shah, Shyam Sunder, and Faizuddin Siddiqui, with the screenplay crafted by Bhavesh Mandalia and Meghna Srivastava.
Set against the backdrop of the tumultuous 1990s in Goa, “Costao” will be available for streaming on ZEE5 starting May 1.
