Mumbai, Aug 30 (NationPress) The National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) has formed a strategic alliance with prominent Australian institutions, Screen Producers Australia (SPA) and the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), to enhance cultural and creative ties between the Indian and Australian film industries.
NFDC has finalized two Letters of Intent (LOIs) with these Australian organizations. The LOI with SPA establishes a common goal to send a delegation of Indian producers to Australia in 2026 for the SCREEN FOREVER conference, which will take place on the Gold Coast.
This initiative, titled ‘India Connect’, aims to build a vibrant platform for co-production ventures, cultural exchanges, and lasting business relationships. The program will feature project-matching forums, delegate selection processes, and organized networking opportunities designed to encourage creative and commercial collaborations between producers from both nations.
The LOI with NFSA focuses on heritage preservation, knowledge sharing, and archival collaborations, underscoring the critical importance of protecting cinematic history. This collaboration is expected to facilitate mutual learning in film restoration, digitization, and preservation techniques, ensuring that future generations can appreciate and honor the rich film legacies of both countries.
Commenting on these strategic partnerships, Information & Broadcasting Secretary Shri Sanjay Jaju stated, "These partnerships highlight NFDC's dedication to creating global connections for Indian cinema. With Australia, we not only share creative aspirations but also have a duty to preserve and promote our screen cultures. Together, we anticipate nurturing new collaborations that will inspire filmmakers, audiences, and cultural communities in both nations."
The rollout of this collaboration is planned for late 2025, culminating in activities leading up to Screen Forever 2026 and additional archival initiatives with NFSA.
The partnerships will also enhance Waves Bazaar, NFDC's flagship content and co-production market, scheduled to occur alongside the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in November. The collaborations with SPA and NFSA are aimed at boosting participation at Waves Bazaar.
