Los Angeles, April 15 (NationPress) Singer-songwriter Nick Carter is currently under scrutiny for allegations of sexually assaulting a woman. The plaintiff has filed a new lawsuit claiming that she contracted STDs that ultimately resulted in cervical cancer.
In her lawsuit, Laura Penly contends that the Backstreet Boys star, aged 45, assaulted her around 2004 when she was approximately 19 years old, as reported by People magazine.
Carter has refuted the claims through a statement issued by his legal team. Penly asserts that their encounters occurred between December 2004 and February 2005, which she describes as a “sexually intimate relationship” where they would meet approximately every few weeks during her visits to Los Angeles.
According to People, Penly alleges that the sexual activity was consensual at least on three occasions, until the situation allegedly escalated during a visit to his Hollywood residence. She claims to have requested that he use a condom, but Carter supposedly “refused,” leading her to believe he was “clean” of sexually transmitted infections.
The lawsuit states that prior to her engagement with Carter, she had never experienced unprotected sexual relations.
Penly reported that in early 2005, she returned to his apartment with the intention of watching movies, but Carter allegedly insisted that her only purpose for being there was to engage in sexual activity.
The lawsuit claims that the sexual assault occurred “forcefully” on his bed, despite her repeated refusals of “no.” Carter purportedly “failed to use protection to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections” to Penly.
According to her complaint, she was advised to keep the incident confidential as no one would believe her. Nonetheless, a few months later, Carter allegedly expressed remorse, and during another meeting, she claims she was assaulted yet again.
She also alleges that Carter’s fans have harassed her following her testimony against him during a deposition. Due to Carter’s “willful and conscious disregard” for her safety, Penly is pursuing damages exceeding $15,000 and is requesting a jury trial.
