What Did Paresh Rawal Say About His 2017 Viral Tweet on Taj Mahal?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Nov 4 (NationPress) Renowned actor Paresh Rawal, who recently starred in the film ‘The Taj Story’, has addressed his 2017 viral tweet where he criticized individuals questioning the origins of the Taj Mahal.
During a promotional event at a luxury hotel, he reaffirmed his stance from eight years ago.
In 2017, Rawal condemned the views that labeled the UNESCO world heritage site as non-Mughal architecture. He expressed, “Taj Mahal - Symbol of Love becomes the symbol of Hate!!! Stupid n unnecessary n sad n pathetic controversy.”
Fast forward eight years, and he is now part of ‘The Taj Story’, which attempts to “reveal” the truth regarding the monument, albeit lacking peer review.
Rawal explained that his tweet was a reaction to media reports suggesting that the Taj Mahal is a Hindu monument.
He told IANS, “My tweet was in response to the media reports of that time. I oppose any form of baseless controversy that serves no purpose but spreads negativity. This film does not engage in any Hindu-Muslim controversy.”
“Asking questions labels you as communal, while answering them makes you a propagandist. We are discussing history here. We have included input from the education board and historians to understand why we were misled. What I said in 2017 still holds some relevance,” he added.
