This cancellation follows concerns brought forth by the Sant Tukaram Sansthan.
In response, director Aditya Om remarked, "In Pune city, the majority of the film’s screenings have been interrupted. This disruption stems from objections raised by the Sant Tukaram Sansthan, leading the Pune Police to issue an advisory.”
‘Sant Tukaram’ is celebrated as a tribute to the 17th-century saint-poet whose devotional verses transformed concepts of resistance and spirituality. The film portrays his journey and his moving Abhanga compositions.
Aditya continued, “The advisory indicates that, in light of the concerns expressed by the Sant Tukaram Sansthan, cinema halls throughout Pune have been cautioned and advised to implement necessary safety measures to prevent any incidents. Consequently, many theaters have opted to cancel the film's screenings. It is noteworthy that the film received a U certificate from the Censor Board without any cuts. This entire situation has profoundly impacted the film’s presentations, resulting in substantial financial setbacks for the producers.”
The film’s writer and director have emphasized that ‘Sant Tukaram’ was created with profound dedication, aimed solely at disseminating the values and teachings of the saint.
