Mumbai, Nov 13 (NationPress) Actress Rasika Dugal, who has ascended in her role in the newly launched season 3 of the acclaimed streaming series 'Delhi Crime', recently discussed her priorities upon entering a film set.
In a conversation with IANS during the promotional activities for the third season of her OTT series, she elaborated on how she navigates the intersection of technical filmmaking aspects and artistic expression. Rasika expressed that her first inquiry upon entering a set is about the focus pullers, the crucial crew members responsible for ensuring that actors remain in focus during filming.
She stated, "When I step onto a set, my first thought is, 'I hope they have a skilled focus puller'; that's my prayer at that moment. This is why the technical components hold significant value. Some directors facilitate a smooth process that allows you to overlook the technical challenges, while some technicians make it seamless, so you forget the camera's presence and focus on hitting your marks."
However, she acknowledged that there are many who are meticulous about technical details. She continued, "One has to adapt to those situations as well. In my humble opinion, for a stellar performance, it’s often the sets that allow you to forget about the technicalities and focus on your craft, supported by the director and technical team. There are instances where I don’t even meet the focus puller; they intuitively find me at the precise point the director desires."
"It’s remarkable how collaborative this process is. For instance, in a previous show, I had to deliver a powerful emotional scene. If that scene faltered, the entire character arc would have suffered. We shot a track scene where the focus briefly slipped. Although we did a safety take, it lacked the magic of the first. Ultimately, the director chose the initial take, much to the displeasure of the DOP, who felt that it undermined his work. Sometimes, compromises must be made for the collective good, reinforcing the essence of collaboration," she added.
