Los Angeles, May 24 (NationPress) Hollywood icon Ryan Reynolds has already made history by delivering Disney its first R-rated MCU film with ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’. If all goes according to plan, Disney could see its inaugural R-rated ‘Star Wars’ project.

The ‘Deadpool’ actor disclosed on Friday's episode of ‘The Box Office’ podcast with host Scott Mendelson that he has proposed an R-rated film set in a galaxy far, far away, as reported by ‘Variety’.

“I pitched to Disney, I said, ‘Why don’t we create an R-rated ‘Star Wars’ property? It doesn’t have to feature top-tier characters. There’s a vast array of characters available to explore’,” he stated. “And I don’t mean R-rated in a crass way. I see R-rated as a vehicle for genuine emotion. I often question why studios hesitate to take a chance on something like this,” he added.

According to ‘Variety’, there has yet to be an R-rated ‘Star Wars’ film or show. The closest the franchise has come to adult themes is the more serious ‘Andor’ series, which just concluded its two-season run earlier this month and tackled some profound subjects.

Regarding his R-rated concept, Reynolds clarified that he does not intend to act in it. “I’m not suggesting I want to star in it. That would be a mismatch,” he remarked. “I’d prefer to write, produce, or contribute behind the scenes. Such intellectual properties thrive on elements of rarity and surprise. While we don’t get much rarity from ‘Star Wars’ because of Disney+, there’s still potential to astonish viewers,” he elaborated.

Director Shawn Levy, who collaborated with Reynolds on ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, ‘The Adam Project’, and ‘Free Guy’, is also working on ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’, which stars Ryan Gosling.

Next in the ‘Star Wars’ saga is ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, which will take Pedro Pascal’s beloved bounty hunter and the adorable Baby Yoda to the big screen.

Point of View

I believe Ryan Reynolds' proposal for an R-rated ‘Star Wars’ film could signify a daring shift in storytelling within the franchise. It highlights the evolving landscape of cinematic content, where emotional depth is increasingly valued. This idea deserves serious consideration as it may resonate well with both fans and new audiences alike.
