Mumbai, March 5 (NationPress) Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga reminisced about the overwhelming response he received after the blockbuster success of “Arjun Reddy”, which starred Shahid Kapoor.
During a conversation on the “Game Changers” Podcast with trade analyst Komal Nahta, he shared insights about his career and identified the pivotal moment that transformed his filmmaking journey.
Vanga pinpointed “Arjun Reddy” as his breakthrough film.
He recounted, “The teaser was unveiled on February 14, 2017, marking a transformative day for both me and Vijay Deverakonda. At 7 PM, we together clicked the button on my laptop to release it.”
The director noted that the teaser garnered significant excitement.
“Within 1-2 hours, my phone was flooded with messages. That day, we realized this film had potential. The teaser created a larger impact than the film itself, surpassing our expectations.”
“Arjun Reddy” starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in lead roles. Its success was so remarkable that it led to several remakes, including the Bollywood sensation “Kabir Singh”, which was also directed by Vanga and featured Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani.
Released in 2017, “Arjun Reddy” follows the story of Arjun Reddy Deshmukh (Deverakonda), a wealthy surgeon grappling with alcoholism and anger issues. The narrative chronicles his self-destructive journey following the marriage of his girlfriend Preethi Shetty (Pandey), focusing on his decline and eventual recovery.
The film was partly inspired by Vanga's own experiences as a physiotherapy student. He dedicated two years to writing the script, and it took around four to five years for the film to come to fruition.
