Saqib Saleem Marks 3 Years of '83' with Behind-the-Scenes Highlights

Mumbai, Dec 24 (NationPress) Actor Saqib Saleem is commemorating 3 years since the debut of his sports biopic '83'. The actor shared behind-the-scenes highlights from the film on his Instagram account on Tuesday.

In his caption, he expressed, “Made so many memories on this one. Some lifelong friendships, some unforgettable times, not tagging anyone cos everyone from this team is tagged in my heart. 3 years to ‘83’.”

'83', directed by Kabir Khan, narrates the remarkable journey of India’s 1983 World Cup winning cricket team. The Indian squad, led by Kapil Dev, faced off against the formidable West Indies in the World Cup Finals of 1983. Notably, Neena Gupta, a cast member, had a romantic relationship with cricket legend Viv Richards, who played for the 1983 West Indies team under the captaincy of Sir Clive Hubert Lloyd.

Sir Richards batted at number three and was a Right-arm medium/off break bowler. During the finals, he scored 33 runs off 28 balls, achieving a strike rate of 117.85 before being caught by Kapil Dev on Madan Lal's delivery.

However, he was costly with the ball, giving away 8 runs in his only over. Neena and Richards began their relationship in the late 80s and have a daughter, Masaba Gupta, who is a prominent fashion designer and actress, making her debut in the Netflix original series 'Masaba Masaba'.

The film was initially slated for release in April 2020, but several delays occurred due to casting and pre-production challenges, as well as the Covid-19 pandemic in India, pushing the release to December 2021.

It made its debut at the Red Sea International Film Festival on December 15 and was released globally on December 24, 2021, in both conventional 2D and 3D formats, distributed by PVR Pictures in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, alongside the original version. Despite the anticipation, the film did not perform well at the box office.
