Mumbai, Nov 9 (NationPress) Actress Sayani Gupta, who will soon appear in the third season of the internationally acclaimed streaming series ‘Delhi Crime’, has revealed her distinctive approach to memory.
During an interview with IANS in Mumbai's BKC area, she explained that her memory functions in an unconventional manner. While she can recall certain events with remarkable clarity, there are instances where she struggles to remember details that her mind chooses not to retain.
When questioned about how she regains composure after performing emotionally intense scenes, she stated, “My memory can be quite exceptional at times, but in other instances, it can be quite poor. Over time, I've come to understand that it resembles a process of self-purging. To make space in my ‘hard disk’ (her mind), I naturally empty it out. I’m genuinely thankful and have often expressed gratitude that I don’t forget my lines. I remember every word of each character.”
She further elaborated, “I know the entire script. When I return home, I check my notes to see which parts I haven't reviewed; if I've missed something, it bothers me. However, once I finish a scene, that dialogue seemingly vanishes from my mind. Until that moment, I had memorized all the lines, but after the scene is complete, I will forget them. If you ask me the next day, ‘What were the lines?’, I won't recall. It’s a peculiar system.”
“As performers, we cannot revisit past emotions; otherwise, we would be unable to proceed. If actors lacked the ability to compartmentalize, we might end up in mental institutions,” she added.
‘Delhi Crime’ features Shefali Shah portraying Vartika Chaturvedi, a sharp police officer navigating through intense investigations while facing immense public and political pressures. The series is notable for its realism, emotional depth, and the depiction of systemic challenges within India’s law enforcement. It has received worldwide acclaim for its sensitivity and authenticity, winning the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series, solidifying its status as one of the most impactful Indian shows on Netflix.
The third season is set to premiere on Netflix on November 13.
