Mumbai, July 16 (NationPress) ITA founder and actor Shashi Ranjan has expressed his worries regarding the status of Indian television, stressing the urgent requirement for enhanced creativity and innovative storytelling.

In a recent discussion with IANS, he underscored the necessity for the industry to adapt to the evolving expectations of its audience. When questioned about the future of Indian television and the potential shift away from melodrama, Shashi emphasized that it is crucial for Indian television to elevate its standards and deliver fresh, innovative narratives.

“We have much to accomplish. New stories and concepts are essential. While nostalgic shows have their place, they do not benefit the overall creative vitality of the industry. We require fresh writers and innovative ideas, and we certainly have the talent. However, channels must evolve as well because many opt for the easy path. A successful show on one channel prompts three others to produce similar content, which is quite unfortunate. I do see a lot of potential and growth for television,” he remarked.

He further stated, “Regarding Indian television, we absolutely need to enhance our creative efforts, both from industry leaders and channel executives. It's imperative for those who are capable to overcome the insecurity of recycling the same concepts repeatedly.”

Reflecting on the 25 glorious years of the Indian Television Academy, Shashi Ranjan noted, “This journey has included many challenges and rewarding moments. Thankfully, the support from colleagues and friends in the industry has been tremendous. This encouragement has established our awards as some of the most credible and transparent in the entertainment sector.”

On the professional front, Shashi Ranjan recently directed the documentary series “The Roshans,” which explores the rich heritage of the Roshan family in Bollywood. The series made its debut on Netflix on January 17, 2025.
