Mumbai, April 23 (NationPress) Actor Shehzad Khan, known for portraying Bhalla in the iconic comedy ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, has refuted the persistent myth that the film was a box-office disaster.
In a conversation with IANS, Khan stated, “The assertion that the film did not receive a favorable response during its theatrical release is entirely untrue. It successfully ran for 25 weeks in theaters during its original release, achieving a silver jubilee.”
However, he acknowledged that the movie’s promotion was lacking, which affected its financial performance somewhat.
He elaborated, “Yes, it is accurate that the distributors at that time did not adequately support the publicity. And what could they have done in such circumstances? The producer is often powerless. Once the film is handed over to the distributors, they have complete discretion over its treatment. I distinctly remember that it ran for 25 weeks, a silver jubilee. The satellite channels ultimately turned it into a cult classic.”
‘Andaz Apna Apna’ featured notable actors including Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal (in a dual role), and Shakti Kapoor. It was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Vinay Kumar Sinha.
The plot revolves around two conmen attempting to charm an heiress for her father’s fortune, only to discover that the heiress has swapped identities with her secretary. As events unfold, one of them genuinely falls for the heiress while the other develops feelings for the secretary.
The film is set to be re-released in theaters.
