Mumbai, Jan 26 (NationPress) Renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, celebrated for classics like ‘Masoom’, ‘Mr. India’, and ‘Bandit Queen’, is delving into the realm of existential questions following the announcement of his receipt of the Padma Bhushan, which stands as the third-highest civilian honor in the Republic of India.

On Sunday, the filmmaker shared a heartfelt moment on his Instagram with his daughter, Kaveri. He included a reflective note in the caption, pondering the new responsibilities that accompany the Padma Bhushan.

He expressed, “Isn’t a sincere embrace from a loved one what life is truly about? This was the moment I learned of being honored with the #padmabhushan among India’s top civilian awards. Do I truly deserve it? There are countless filmmakers and artists who haven't been afforded the same opportunities that I have had. They often say you create your own chances, and that it’s all a matter of Karma, as opportunities arise as they are meant to. Ultimately, my contemplative question after a sleepless night upon hearing about the award was not, ‘Did I earn it?’ but rather, ‘Will I be worthy of it?’ As I now bear the weight of this honor, the responsibility is immense.”

He also stated, “Now, I must demonstrate that I am deserving. Will I prove worthy? Kaveri certainly believes so, evident from the pride and happiness radiating from her face during this warm embrace. Moving forward, I aim to create ‘Masoom, the Next Generation’, a film that reflects us—the people of India—amidst change and conflict, contemplating what was, what is, and what will be in this evolving India.”

“When I look at Kaveri, I ponder the future of India that she will inherit. Don’t you think about the future when you gaze at your children, the next generation? She’s already preparing for her role in the film alongside Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Manoj Bajpayee, and the talented Nithya Menon, among others,” he continued.

Following the prestigious award’s announcement, the filmmaker also addressed his followers on X, previously known as Twitter.

He remarked, “What a privilege! I am truly humbled that the Government of India considers me worthy of a #Padmanbhushan. I hope this accolade motivates me to work harder for the industry I cherish and the beautiful nation I am privileged to be part of. A heartfelt thank you to the film audiences of India; my existence is because of you.”
