Mumbai, Sep 7 (NationPress) Bollywood star Janhvi Kapoor’s partner Shikhar Pahariya is feeling the absence of Lord Ganpati now that the 10-day festival has concluded. On Sunday, Shikhar shared moments from his journey to the visarjan of the iconic Lalbaugcha Raja idol on his Instagram.
The images showcase Shikhar alongside Lord Ganpati, with the idol appearing magnificent, and the visarjan scenes unfolding at the beach.
In his caption, he expressed, “Victory to Lalbaugcha Raja! Ganapati Bappa Moraya .. Looking forward to next year! The city of dreams pays homage to the remover of obstacles.”
Lalbaugcha Raja stands as the revered Ganesha idol of the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal. Originally known as 'Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, Lalbaug’, it was established in 1934 by the Koli community of fishermen at Lalbaug Market. This initiative emerged from a vow to construct the current Lalbaug Market at its present location. The market at Peru Chawl was closed in 1932.
Consequently, the fishermen and vendors who previously traded in the open pledged to Ganesha to establish a permanent marketplace. Eventually, landlord Rajabai Tayyabali consented to allocate a plot for the market. The fishermen and traders established the Ganesha idol on September 12, 1934, as an expression of gratitude.
As of 2025, Lalbaugcha Raja will celebrate its 92nd year. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal halted its traditional celebrations for the first time in 86 years, shifting focus to a campaign promoting virus awareness.
Lalbaugcha Raja is a vital piece of Mumbai’s cultural heritage, drawing over a million devotees daily during its 11-day celebration.
On another note, Janhvi Kapoor is set to appear in ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ alongside Varun Dhawan.
