Mumbai, Feb 6 (NationPress) As "Padmaavat" returns to theaters today, actor Ranveer Singh discussed the profound creative journey behind his memorable depiction of Alauddin Khilji.
The 'Singham Again' star shared that his goal was to make the character "darker" and more of an "extremist," pushing the limits of his performance to add a richer layer to this intricate historical persona. He reflected on the obstacles he encountered while embodying such a merciless figure, highlighting his commitment and fervor towards the role.
Regarding his acting, Ranveer noted, “As an actor, I need to be honest with the script. I used the script as my textbook.” He underscored the significance of remaining faithful to the vision of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and writer Prakash Kapadia, asserting, “For the most part, I take my cues from what is written.”
Singh further revealed his ambition to explore even more of Khilji's sinister traits. "In fact, I wanted to make Khilji darker and even more of an extremist," he stated. He added that for this project, "Mr. Bhansali really molded me this time." This direct guidance enabled Singh to elaborate on the script’s groundwork, allowing him to authentically portray Khilji.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s grand film "Padmaavat," featuring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor, was originally scheduled for a re-release on January 24, 2025.
However, the release date has been shifted, and the movie will now grace cinemas on February 6.
Set in 1303 AD during medieval India, "Padmaavat" narrates the courageous tale of Queen Padmavati, portrayed by Deepika, and her struggle against the ruthless Sultan Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh). The film underscores her determination to defend her realm and honor from Khilji’s malevolent aspirations.
The storyline revolves around Padmavati, who weds Maharawal Ratan Singh, the monarch of Chittor, a kingdom in northwest India, and the conflicts that arise as Khilji covets her beauty and power.
