Chennai, Jan 8 (NationPress) Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj’s highly anticipated explosive action film, Retro, starring Suriya in the leading role, is set to hit theaters on May 1, which coincides with Labor Day, as confirmed by the production team on Tuesday.
Suriya shared the exciting news on his X account on Tuesday evening, unveiling a striking new poster where he is depicted with a serious expression, wielding a spiked metal club. He captioned it, “#Retro from May 1st.”
In a show of enthusiasm, Karthik Subbaraj commented, “The One from May One !! #Retro in Cinemas Worldwide from May 1st 2025 #LoveLaughterWar #TheOneMayOne.”
Since its announcement, the film has attracted significant attention. Anticipation grew further when the production team released a title teaser.
The title teaser showcased Pooja Hegde and Suriya sitting beside a river, where Suriya vows to leave behind a life of violence and rowdiness. He expresses that his new purpose will be her love and proposes marriage. She responds affirmatively by kissing him on the forehead.
This teaser garnered an incredible two crore views, boosting expectations for the film and prompting many fans to eagerly await its release.
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film is produced by Suriya and Jyothika’s 2D Entertainment. Alongside Suriya and Pooja Hegde in lead roles, the film also stars Joju George, Jayaram, and Karunakaran in key supporting roles.
The soundtrack is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, with cinematography handled by Shreyaas Krishna. Shafique Mohamed Ali takes care of the editing, while Jacki oversees art direction. Costumes are designed by Praveen Raja, and action sequences have been choreographed by Kecha Khamphakdee.
