Chennai, May 6 (NationPress) Director Karthik Subbaraj, whose film Retro, featuring actor Suriya in the lead, recently hit theaters, has revealed that superstar Rajinikanth appreciated his film, calling Suriya's performance "super".
In a post on his X timeline, director Karthik Subbaraj shared, "Thalaivar watched #Retro & he loved it.... His exact words were...'What an effort by (the) whole team.... Suriya's performance is super.... The final 40 minutes of the film are superb... The comedic elements are fantastic.... God bless.'"

In a recent interview with a YouTube channel, Karthik mentioned that after Retro, he is considering making an independent film next.
"I haven't made a final decision yet. Following Double X (Jigarthanda Double X), I thought about creating an Indie film. Make a movie and submit it to festivals, then release it in theaters after a year. I have a script ready, but then Retro came along. Now, I'm contemplating that idea again."
Retro, which debuted to positive reviews, stars Suriya and Pooja Hegde. The film was released on May 1 to coincide with International Workers' Day this year.
Suriya undertook martial arts training in Thailand for the film's stunt sequences. The makers noted that Suriya impressed his trainers with his dedication and hard work.
Besides Suriya and Pooja Hegde, Retro also showcases a talented cast, including Malayalam actors Joju George and Jayaram, along with Tamil actor Karunakaran.
