Chennai, Feb 24 (NationPress) The team behind director Karthik Subbaraj’s highly anticipated action film ‘Retro’ has unveiled the third episode of their engaging comic series, showcasing how they managed to capture a special shot of Suriya without his awareness.

This shot was intended for a birthday video tribute to Suriya!

Previously, the Retro crew announced their plan to share amusing behind-the-scenes anecdotes from the film's set, conveyed through comic strips!

In this installment, titled ‘A SWEET SURPRISE FOR SURIYA SIR!’, the production team brings fans more excitement.

Released on the X timeline of director Karthik Subbaraj’s production entity Stone Bench Productions, the episode kicks off on the final day of the Andaman shooting schedule, which was described as bustling with activity and a covert operation.

“While one faction of the crew worked on concluding the shoot, Karthik Subbaraj alongside DOP Shreyas had a special surprise planned—a birthday shot for Suriya sir’s video! Keeping this a secret proved to be the real test. As the directing team hurried around, one member whispered, ‘How do we keep this hidden from sir?’

Another expressed concern, ‘Suriya sir is incredibly perceptive; he’ll catch on!’” the creators revealed.

The team shared that they went above and beyond to keep Suriya’s assistant distracted, just in case.

“In the midst of this, Karthik had a brilliant idea—why not create an impressive entry shot for Suriya sir? Shreyas accepted the challenge and devised an intense focus shift. He zoomed in to the maximum, blurred everything momentarily, and then snapped into sharp clarity—enhancing Suriya sir’s entry,” the production house explained.

However, just as the team thought they had everything under control, Suriya sensed something was amiss. “Karthik Subbaraj always adheres to the script… why this additional shot now?” he inquired suspiciously.

The crew managed to alleviate his concerns with a convincing response.

“Without missing a beat, Karthik casually replied, ‘It’s a new addition, sir. You’re going to love it!’ And with that, the scene unfolded—blood stains, a gun transfer, a devilish grin, and BANG! Suriya sir was overjoyed. The surprise shot and the chaos—it all came together seamlessly for THE ONE. Retro will star Suriya and Pooja Hegde in lead roles. In addition to Suriya and Pooja Hegde, the film will feature an array of stars including Malayalam actors Joju George and Jayaram, along with Tamil actor Karunakaran.

The cinematic score will be crafted by Santhosh Narayanan while cinematography is being handled by Shreyaas Krishna. Editing duties fall to Shafique Mohamed Ali and art direction to Jacki, Mayapandi. This action-packed film will showcase stunts designed by Kecha Khamphakdee.
