Chennai, March 25 (NationPress) The creators of director Karthik Subbaraj’s forthcoming film ‘Retro’ have revealed that actor Suriya, who takes on the lead role, successfully executed a 15-minute single shot sequence in the film with just one take.
Continuing their trend of sharing humorous and memorable moments from the sets of ‘Retro’ in the form of a comic strip, Stone Bench Films, the production company collaborating with Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, recently published its seventh comic strip titled ‘EPI007: #Kanimaa’vin Kadhai - The Story Behind the Viral Hit!’ on its X timeline.
The production team began by explaining how the now-famous number was crafted.
They stated, “Sherif Master had one goal: to develop a hook step that would become a sensation. And guess what? Mission accomplished! The “Kanimaa” hook step has taken social media by storm, with fans recreating it nonstop! It’s the quintessential kuthu hit, and the excitement just keeps building.”
However, it was after the hook step that the actual twist of the narrative emerged. Revealing the twist, the production team said, “Director Karthik Subbaraj envisioned a challenging 15-minute single-shot sequence that integrated the song, fight, and scene, requiring Suriya sir to remain authentic to his character throughout. After several rehearsals, being the professional he is, Suriya sir went all out for that one flawless take and absolutely nailed it!”
The production company also praised actress Pooja Hegde, whose charming moves in the dance number have garnered widespread acclaim.
“And then came Cutie Queen Pooja! While Suriya maintained a serious demeanor, Pooja brightened the screen with her delightful expressions and impressive kuthu moves. Fans have started calling her the “Expression Queen of Kanimaa,” and she truly deserves that title!” the production house stated.
Stone Bench also disclosed that everyone on set, except for Suriya, was aware of music director Santhosh Narayanan’s cameo appearance in the song.
They mentioned, “Now for the surprise cameo, everyone on set knew except Suriya. He was eager to find out, only to be shocked & amazed when it turned out to be none other than Santhosh Narayanan! But wait, the real twist here is, Sherif Master made him perform a single-take full-on kuthu folk dance! And oh boy, did he nail it in one shot! The internet is now flooded with memes dubbing him “That One Drunken Uncle at Every Marriage Function.”
“Once the shoot concluded, the entire team was ecstatic as they accomplished the challenging 15-minute single shot sequence, and Suriya sir personally expressed his gratitude and appreciation to everyone for making it an unforgettable experience,” the production company shared.
In addition to Suriya and Pooja Hegde, ‘Retro’, set to release on May 1, will feature a talented ensemble cast including Malayalam actors Joju George and Jayaram, as well as Tamil actor Karunakaran.
