Los Angeles, Jan 1 (NationPress) Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney is dedicated to immersing herself in her roles. To prepare for her portrayal in 'Christy', she constructed a gym at her residence.
The 28-year-old actress embodies boxer Christy Martin in the film and was “enthusiastic” about undergoing a complete transformation for the character, according to a report by Female First UK.
In an interview with OK! magazine in the UK, she expressed, “I was thrilled to do it. My goal was to honor Christy and make her proud”.
She added, “I genuinely enjoy playing roles that allow me to fully immerse myself and transform completely. I committed to every detail of this character. I built a gym in my home, hired a professional boxing coach, a weight trainer, and a nutrition expert. I worked tirelessly every day to achieve the physicality required for the role”.
According to Female First UK, the 'Euphoria' actress gained 35 pounds for the part and noted that the process often left her feeling “extremely unwell” due to her efforts to gain weight.
She remarked, “It was all part of the journey. It involved muscle building, numerous protein shakes, and a significant calorie intake. It was overwhelming; I felt nauseous most of the time. Losing weight is certainly more challenging than gaining it. However, once I began boxing, the weight started to drop off. Afterward, it was about finding the right balance again”.
It was not solely the physical training that posed challenges for Sydney. She mentioned, “The physical training was enjoyable. I could prepare and feel ready. Yet, transitioning from that to emotionally intense scenes was a different struggle. We were fortunate to have Christy with us. I had the opportunity to converse with her extensively to understand her mindset during those moments. It was all about being present, engaging with the script, and diving in. That’s my approach to work”.
Sydney described the filmmaking process as a “transformative” experience. When asked about the lessons she gained from portraying Christy, she stated, “So much. This has been a profoundly positive life-altering experience for me. Playing Christy and connecting with her has empowered me to advocate for myself and understand what I need to feel stronger in both my career and personal life”.
“It has inspired me to be ready to support those around me and to always be there for them. Moreover, it has rekindled my passion for boxing”, she concluded.
