Lucknow, Jan 5 (NationPress) In a major boost for those aspiring to join the police force, the Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned a one-time three-year extension in the age limit for applicants across all categories in the direct recruitment of constables and similar positions within the UP Police and Jail Administration.
As detailed in an official notification released on Monday, this decision was made under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, taking into account the needs of countless candidates who had previously been disqualified due to age limitations.
The age extension is applicable to the direct recruitment-2025 for Constable Civil Police and equivalent roles.
According to Government Order No. 1/1194447/6-1001(008)24/23 issued on January 5, 2026, a one-time exceptional three-year age relaxation has been approved for candidates of all backgrounds.
This directive follows an earlier announcement dated December 31, 2025.
In this recruitment initiative, a total of 32,679 positions will be filled, including roles for Constable Civil Police (Male/Female), Constable PAC/Armed Police (Male), Constable Special Security Force (Male), Women Constable (Women Battalion), Constable Mounted Police (Male), Jail Warder (Male), and Jail Warder (Female).
The age relaxation has been authorized by the Personnel Section-2 of the Uttar Pradesh government in accordance with Rule-3 of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service (Relaxation of Age Limit for Recruitment) Rules, 1992.
This move is projected to benefit a large number of candidates who were previously excluded due to age restrictions.
It's worth noting that the age limit in police recruitment has been a contentious issue, with ongoing demands for relaxation from both the candidates and government circles.
Several political entities had urged the government to allow age relaxation in the recruitment process.
In response to these appeals, the government led by Yogi Adityanath has taken this proactive measure, thereby facilitating wider participation in the forthcoming police recruitment.
