Mumbai, Sep 16 (NationPress) Tannishtha Chatterjee’s highly anticipated directorial debut Full Plate is set to premiere at the Opening Night of the Indian Film Festival of Sydney. The talented actress and filmmaker described the film as being born from struggle, grit, and hope.
The film stars Kirti Kulhari in the lead role, alongside Sharib Hashmi, Monica Dogra, and Indraneil Sengupta in pivotal roles. It will have its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival 2025.
Full Plate narrates the journey of a Muslim homemaker in Mumbai whose life takes a drastic turn following her husband's accident, compelling her to seek employment and leading to feelings of insecurity in her husband and a profound personal transformation.
Reflecting on the film's festival opener, Tannishtha expressed: “During one of the toughest periods of my life, knowing that stories still hold weight meant everything to me.”
She further shared, “When Mitu approached me about opening the Indian Film Festival of Sydney with Full Plate, I was both humbled and incredibly thankful. This film embodies struggle, grit, and hope, and presenting it to the Sydney audience feels like completing a significant journey.”
Festival director Mitu Bhowmick Lange AM commented: “Opening with Full Plate resonates deeply. Tannishtha’s bravery and her determination to share this story in the face of immense challenges exemplify why Indian cinema is vital—it not only entertains but also reveals, heals, and provokes thought.”
The festival returns after a break, promising three days of engaging cinematic storytelling from October 9 to 11.
On September 15, Tannishtha’s dear friend and National Award-winning actress Shabana Azmi revealed that she completed Full Plate while undergoing treatment for cancer.
Shabana took to Instagram to share heartfelt photos with Tannishtha and friends Sandhya Mridul, Divya Dutta, and Urmila Matondkar.
Praising Tannishtha, Shabana wrote: “To Tiger Tan as she heads to Busan International Film Festival with her directorial venture, completed during her cancer treatment. You are the rock of Gibraltar.”
