Tia Bajpai on 'Number 1': How the single helped her reinvent as actor, singer, lyricist
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actress Tia Bajpai, best known for her role in the supernatural thriller 'Haunted – 3D', has spoken candidly about her latest single 'Number 1' — a project she describes as a turning point in her creative journey. Released on 10 July with an official music video, the track sees Bajpai step into the lead as actor, singer, and lyricist simultaneously.
A Creative Convergence
'Number 1' is not simply another Bollywood-adjacent single for Bajpai — it is, by her own account, the first time she has brought her twin passions of acting and music together in one project. Writing the lyrics and then embodying them on screen gave the project a personal weight that straight performance work had not.
'For me, being an artist has never been about staying in one lane. Acting and music are both equally close to my heart, and with Number 1, I finally get to bring them together. Writing the lyrics and then performing them on screen as the lead actress has been an incredibly fulfilling experience,' Tia Bajpai said.
She added: 'Reinventing yourself is the biggest challenge for any performer, and I'm grateful that audiences are now getting to see me as an actor, a musician, and a lyricist, all at the same time. I hope they connect with this new side of me just as much as they have with my work over the years.'
Behind the Scenes: A Ferrari in the Desert
Bajpai also recalled an unusual moment from the shoot. The production team used her personal Ferrari as both a production car and a private wardrobe vehicle — reportedly a first for any Indian music video shoot. During filming in the desert, the car became stuck in sand, requiring around nine people to push it free before it could be used for the next scene.
'While shooting in the desert, my Ferrari got stuck in sand since we were using my Ferrari as a production car; around 9 people had to push the Ferrari to come out of the sand since we needed to use it for another scene, and for the first time, a Ferrari was used as a production car and my private wardrobe car,' she recounted.
Composer Arian Romal's Return to Hindi Music
The song was composed by Arian Romal, who is marking his return to Hindi music after a seven-year hiatus. Romal, who says he spent the intervening years building businesses, described 'Number 1' as the opening track from his upcoming album 'International Daddy' — a multilingual project aimed at global listeners.
'After seven years, this is my first Hindi song that I'm releasing. I've been busy creating million-dollar companies, and now I'm back with my first song and music video from my upcoming album, International Daddy. In this album, I'll be mixing multiple languages and creating something unique for listeners around the world,' Romal said.
What This Marks for Bajpai
The music video represents Tia Bajpai's first lead appearance in a music video, expanding her profile beyond film acting into the music space. The project signals a deliberate repositioning — one that places her creative identity across three disciplines at once. Whether audiences receive this multi-hyphenate avatar as warmly as her screen work remains to be seen, but the intent is unambiguous.
