Tim Curry Shares His Biggest Career Regret
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 30 (NationPress) Renowned actor Tim Curry, famous for his iconic villainous portrayals, including Pennywise the clown in It, Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the scheming concierge in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, recently opened up about one significant regret he holds in his illustrious career.
During an engaging interview at The Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library, Curry reflected on various roles he auditioned for but ultimately missed out on, expressing his disappointment over not being cast as certain villains, as shared by reports from people.com.
When discussing his audition for the character of Marv in Home Alone, a role that eventually went to Daniel Stern, Curry recounted his meeting with the director, Chris Columbus. “I actually met Chris Columbus, who apparently had the only two albums of mine and was a bit of a fan. Nobody else had ever bought them,” Curry shared with a touch of humor.
Despite not securing the villain role in the beloved holiday film, Curry humorously noted that he still managed to appear in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, quipping that he “made it.”
He also auditioned for the part of Malcolm in Jurassic Park, which ultimately went to Jeff Goldblum. Furthermore, Curry was in the running for the role of Scar in The Lion King, a part he admitted “would have been nice.” However, that role was ultimately played by Jeremy Irons.
“My voice career was due to the lady who is now my manager, Marsha,” he mentioned. “I really had a good time doing it.”
Additionally, there was an unproduced project titled Crusade, which never materialized, but Curry humorously recalled that the casting director noted, “Tim Curry is not fat enough.” He quipped, “The only time that any casting director has said that.”
In the same interview, Curry also expressed one of his “great regrets” regarding a role for which he couldn’t even audition. “I read the script of Silence of the Lambs, and I desperately wanted to play Hannibal Lecter,” he revealed. “My agent couldn't get me in the room, but Anthony Hopkins did a great job.”
