Los Angeles, April 1 (NationPress) Hollywood star Tom Hardy envisioned a crossover between the legendary characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - Venom (which he portrays in the franchise film) and Spider-Man (played by his namesake Tom Holland).
The actor made significant efforts to bring the crossover to fruition, but fate had different plans, according to a report by ‘Variety’.
During an appearance on ‘The Discourse Podcast’ from ‘The Playlist’, Tom Hardy confirmed that a crossover between Venom and Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man “came as close as I could possibly imagine” before it fell through.
As reported by ‘Variety’, the Oscar nominee did not specify why the project did not materialize, although he hinted it was related to studio politics.
“We got close,” Hardy said regarding the potential crossover with Holland’s Spider-Man. “We got as close as I could have imagined, apart from actually making a film together, which I would have loved to do because that would have been so much fun.”
‘The Discourse Podcast’ host Mike DeAngelo inquired if it was indeed studio politics that ultimately hindered the crossover, to which Hardy responded that the project never occurred “for all the reasons you mentioned ultimately there.”
“Fundamentally, for me, it would be for the kids,” Tom Hardy stated regarding his desire to create a Venom-Spider-Man project.
“Because, you know, while adults enjoy superhero films, as evidenced by the box office success, I am constantly reminded by children how significant these characters are. They don’t understand why their favorite characters aren’t appearing in films together,” he expressed.
Venom and Spider-Man are two of the most recognizable characters from the MCU alongside Wolverine, Deadpool, Iron Man, and others. They share a complex love-hate relationship, as Venom was created after the symbiote departed from Peter Parker (the alter ego of Spider-Man) and merged with Eddie Brock. While Spider-Man acts as the hero of New York City, Venom serves as the anti-hero that keeps the narrative engaging.
