Jaipur, Aug 8 (NationPress) The film 'Udaipur Files', inspired by the tragic Kanhaiyalal murder incident, premiered on Friday across 4,500 screens nationwide, with three locations in Udaipur: Celebration Mall, Urban Square, and Lake City Mall. Each venue is set to host a single screening, with police presence heightened to ensure safety.
The screening was attended by Kanhaiyalal’s sons, Yash and Tarun Teli, who carried a photograph of their father. Yash emphasized that the film depicts the horrific murder committed by individuals with a terroristic mindset and encouraged the audience to view it.
The first screening commenced at Urban Square Mall, followed by others at Celebration Mall at 6:05 p.m. and Lake City Mall at 7:35 p.m.
Directed by Bharat S. Srinate and produced by Amit Jani, the film stars Vijay Raaz as Kanhaiyalal, alongside Rajneesh Duggal and Preeti Jhangiani in pivotal roles.
Attending the initial screening, lecturer Pramod Kumar Bhati expressed his anticipation for the film and hoped it would promote inter-community harmony.
Prior to the screening, senior police officials, including SP Yogesh Goyal, ASP Umesh Ojha, and Sukher CI Ravindra Singh Charan, conducted inspections at the sites. Security measures were rigorous, requiring all attendees to present documentation for verification.
Initially, the film faced multiple legal challenges. Scheduled for release on July 11, it was delayed following petitions from religious groups and a defendant in the murder case, Mohammad Javed, in the Delhi High Court.
On July 10, the court issued an interim stay, directing the central government to evaluate the film under Section 6 of the Cinematograph Act. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting subsequently approved the film, dismissing the objections raised.
On July 25, the Supreme Court permitted the release, though a new plea was lodged in the Delhi High Court, which instructed the government to assess its appropriateness.
A review committee subsequently sanctioned the release. Filmmaker Amit Jani announced the date on social media, clarifying that the film aims to portray the event, not to vilify any community.
With the dispute resolved, Udaipur Files has finally reached audiences, attracting significant public interest and a robust security presence at its opening screenings.
Currently, Udaipur Files is also trending on social media. One user, Paras Verma, tweeted, "Today's Plan #UdaipurFiles Go with family and watch this film and know how 'Kanhaiya Lal ji' was brutally murdered. How the voice of Hindus is suppressed and if the voice is not suppressed, then they are murdered. My ticket is booked, and yours?"
