Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 1 (NationPress) Renowned actors Urvasi and Vijayraghavan clinched the prestigious National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor on Friday, as the winners were revealed in Delhi.
Urvasi expressed her thoughts candidly, suggesting that a certain lobby influences these awards. "They could have awarded the Best Actress title to two individuals as well. This isn't the first time I've experienced this," she stated.
Interestingly, both Urvasi and Vijayraghavan shared their accolades with two other talented actors. Urvasi received the Best Supporting Actress award for her outstanding performance in the film 'Ullozhokku', while Vijayraghavan was honored with the Best Actor award for his role in 'Pookalam'.
This marks Urvasi's second National Award for Best Supporting Actress, having previously won in 2005 for her role in 'Achuvinte Amma'. Conversely, this is Vijayraghavan's inaugural national accolade.
Upon receiving the news, Vijayraghavan shared his surprise at being named Best Supporting Actor. “I used to eagerly await this day, but after many disappointments, I stopped expecting it. So when the announcement came on Friday, I was genuinely taken aback,” said the beloved actor, whose nearly four-decade career began as a villain.
He added, “I am profoundly grateful to everyone involved in 'Pookalam'. Without the producer's support and the opportunity to portray this role, this award would not have been possible.”
The film '2018', which narrates the harrowing story of the devastating floods in Kerala in 2018, earned an award for Mohandas in the Production Design category. Mithun Murali received the Best Editor award for 'Pookalam'. Director Christo Tomy, whose film 'Pookalam' also snagged the Best Malayalam Feature Film title, expressed his joy over the eight years of hard work finally paying off. “We faced several challenges during production, including interruptions due to Covid. But now, with the film receiving multiple awards, our excitement is palpable. The contributions of Urvasi and Parvathy were truly commendable,” Tomy remarked.
