Ishita Dutta: Vatsal Sheth became 'my hero' after on-set rescue in Lucknow
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actor couple Vatsal Sheth and Ishita Dutta have revealed the dramatic origin of their love story — one that began not with romance, but with a life-threatening accident on a Lucknow film set that saw Vatsal pull Ishita back from the edge of a first-floor fall. The couple shared the story in a video posted to Instagram on 15 July, captioned 'Hamari Love Story.'
Not Love at First Sight
The duo were candid that their relationship did not begin with an instant spark. Vatsal said, 'It didn't happen with us. Love at first sight, actually, I didn't believe in love. She knows.' Ishita added, 'I never thought this is going to happen. But actually, our story started when we were shooting. Not love story, our friendship started there.'
The Accident That Changed Everything
The turning point came during a song sequence shoot for their show in Lucknow, where Ishita came dangerously close to falling from the first floor. Ishita recalled: 'Our friendship started in Lucknow, where we were shooting for a song sequence. I was about to fall from the first floor and only you came and saved me.'
Vatsal described the sequence of events: the director had called cut, but Ishita's sari — caught in the draft of a heavy storm fan positioned below — was being pulled by the machine while she stood alone at the ledge. 'The storm fan was also pulling her,' he said. Without hesitation, Vatsal rushed over and physically lifted the heavy fan to release the tension on the sari, averting what could have been a fatal fall. 'I don't know how I picked it up. But I picked up the fan so that it wouldn't fall. And as soon as I picked it up, she was at ease,' he said. Crew members — spot boys, makeup artists — then ran in to cut the sari free.
Vatsal quipped, 'And I became a hero,' to which Ishita replied, 'My hero. Well, that's how our friendship started.'
From Friendship to Marriage
The two first met on the sets of Rishton Ka Saudagar – Baazigar in 2016. Though the show ended quickly, their bond endured. The couple married in 2017. In March 2023, they announced a pregnancy and welcomed a baby boy later that year. Their second child, a baby girl, arrived in 2025.
The Instagram Moment
The video, shared on Vatsal's official Instagram handle, shows the couple seated together on a couch, recounting the story with warmth and humour. Ishita concluded: 'Unfortunately, the show ended very soon. But our love story started from there.' The candid account has resonated widely with fans, drawing attention to the near-tragedy that quietly set their relationship in motion.
