Chennai, June 30 (NationPress) National Award-winning director Vetrimaran has dismissed circulating rumors that actor Dhanush sought payment for licensing rights related to a film he is planning with Simbu, which is set in the universe of the well-known franchise 'Vada Chennai'.
In an effort to clarify the situation, Vetrimaran shared insights during an interview on his YouTube channel, confirming his upcoming project with Simbu is not Vada Chennai 2 as speculated by certain media outlets.
He explained that the new narrative would indeed take place within the realm of 'Vada Chennai'.
Addressing the copyright concerns surrounding Vada Chennai 2, Vetrimaran stated, "Dhanush, being the producer of Vada Chennai, holds the intellectual property rights to the film, its plot, characters, prequel, sequel, and any related spin-offs. It is both legally and morally correct for a copyright owner to request compensation from those wishing to utilize their copyrighted material. There is no reason to vilify or view this situation negatively."
He further elaborated, "After a meeting with Thanu sir and Simbu, I reached out to Dhanush to discuss the developments. I had two paths: set the film in the Vada Chennai world or create it as a standalone project. Dhanush made it clear that it was entirely up to me, as the copyright owner. He encouraged me to pursue what felt creatively right. He assured me, 'I have no issues. I will communicate with the team immediately and grant an NOC. I don't require any payment.'"
Expressing his disappointment over the hurtful comments circulating on YouTube, Vetrimaran stated, "I was uncomfortable with the discussions surrounding us. I felt it necessary to clarify that Dhanush has never interrupted my creative process. He has always encouraged me to maintain a clear mindset. Recently, when I faced financial challenges, Dhanush ensured I received support from a producer. This reflects that Dhanush will never disrupt my work."
He continued, "When I mentioned I was collaborating with Simbu, Dhanush remarked, 'This will surely be a different experience for you. For him as well, it will be a new opportunity working with you.' Simbu echoed this sentiment when we met four days ago, stating, 'Do what you feel comfortable with. I am open to either option, whether it is part of the Vada Chennai world or a standalone film. I am on board as long as it does not affect your arrangement with Dhanush.' This illustrates the mutual respect both actors have for one another and their readiness to provide me the creative freedom I need.
