Television actor Vibhav Roy, known for shows including Gustakh Dil, Doli Armaano Ki, Kuch Toh Hai Tere Mere Darmiyaan, and Shaitani Rasmein, has revealed that his professional credentials tell a very different story from his on-screen career — he is, by qualification, a Chartered Accountant.

The Road Not Taken

Roy graduated from Monash University and subsequently worked in Australia before returning to India to pursue acting. Had he stayed the course, he says, a career in corporate finance or even investment banking would have been the likely outcome.

'On paper, I'm a Chartered Accountant. I graduated from Monash University and worked in Australia before moving back to India to pursue acting. So, professionally, I probably would have continued as an accountant, perhaps in corporate finance or even investment banking,' Roy said.

Why He Chose Acting

Despite the financial security that a corporate path would have offered, Roy says an inner creative restlessness made the choice inevitable. He credits a personal philosophy of living without regret as the decisive factor.

'But honestly, deep down, I think I would have always been an aspiring actor — or a frustrated artist. I've always believed in not living life with the question, 'What if?' That's one of the biggest reasons I chose to follow my heart and give acting a real shot,' he said.

The actor framed the decision as one between purpose and stability, invoking a personal maxim about balancing the practical with the passionate. 'I guess it comes back to something I mentioned earlier: you do some things for the soul and some for the kitchen. Thankfully, I chose the path that feeds my soul, and I feel fortunate that I took that leap of faith,' he added.

From Television to Bollywood

After spending three years in television, Roy made a significant leap to films when he was approached for Padmaavat, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's widely acclaimed period epic. He portrayed Itaat Khan in the production, marking a notable milestone in his career.

He also appeared as Fahd Khan in Lashtam Pashtam, which released in 2018.

Recent Work

Roy was most recently seen in Shaitani Rasmein in 2024. The first season of the show also featured Naqiyah Haji, while the second season saw Sumit Singh and Reyaansh Vir Chdha step into the lead roles.

With a rare combination of professional qualifications and creative ambition, Roy's trajectory stands as an unusual example of a trained finance professional who traded balance sheets for the spotlight — and has not looked back.
